And if you leave it on too long, it will run too rich. So the choke works, just for some reason when opening it, you can only open it so far before it runs too lean. When ever you keep it on choke there is a butterfly valve that closes restricting the air flow by a little. This gives more gas to the cylinder so it can fire easier.
